Audience.

The internet in itself is an amazing thing in itself. It is a fairly new invention whose potential is still to this day being realized. As if that wasn't already astonishing, in the midst of the rising popularity that is social networks a new feature is revolutionizing the way we are able to access music, by placing more unreachable artists at our very finger tips. I am of course talking about myspace, and it's ever-evolving music interface used by millions daily to see what all the buzz is about, find new and uponcoming artists, and hear what noises are being made right in your very backyard, so to speak.

Controversy.

The significance of this subject is the fact that it (myspace) has the possibility of even further changing the reality that is the way we hear and purchase music in this brave new world that is the digital age. Should myspace realize it's potential, it may someday rival more accurately even overshadow music giant iTunes as the alpha music downloading platform. And this is just the tip of the iceberg.

What I am trying to do is pry open any eyes closed to the invisible threat that myspace poses to the portion of the music industry that makes it's living off of solely cds, ignoring the unharvested market of ringtone hungry, download crazy, and obbsessive music loving junkies that make up the entire world.

More Argument Stuff

More on the argument I had the privilege of witnessing...

My friend's claim: that his brother had been calling his ex, and that wasn't okay. He supported this not just out of suspicion but also by undeniable proof that this was true such as confronting his brother about it and the brother admitting it was true.

His brother's claim: She had been calling him, and he stated that she was to blame for everything. However, he had no proof, other than the usual "he said she said" baseless claims.

My friend's response, and ultimately the way the argument ended: He threatened to hurt his brother if he continued to talk to his ex-girlfriend. And then they hung up the phone.

I would say that my friend won the argument since his brother did not dare to go against what he commanded him to do, or in this case, not to do.

An argument

The last argument I've heard, or the closest thing to one, was overhearing my best friend, who I won't name, arguing with his brother over the phone about recently calling his ex-girlfriend of 5 years. Long story short, there was a threat of physical violence involved and the conversation was over.

aside from the fact that we were made to post this online, it is because the web is full of more diverse people and ultimately will attract more diverse opinions, good or bad.

what you are proud of:

I am proud of the fact that I had good intentions in attempting to undertake such a hard thing to talk about in our society rather than just critisizing, and try to find fault in everything, I appreciate the fact that I tried to push this generation into a more positive direction, not through my opinion but by the collective conscious of our society, whether or not some of the more adamant voices heard and listened to by the world aren't necessarily the ones of reason.

what you would have done more of had you had more time:

I would have brought to light some of the more obvious facts supporting the idea of an existence of perversion in our society. it's truly one of those things where you don't know where to start because you are simply overwhelmed and surrounded by it.

and what you would have improved on had you had greater technical knowledge:
I would have tried to be more professional in explaining the information, but more importantly I would have tried to make this project everything I originally envisioned it to be. Because it is far from it. Although I myself being my worst critic even know that this was a very challenging topic as opposed to the others and can give myself a little credit I guess.

Additionally, comment on your selection of research:
There was virtually nothing to work with in terms of the information I was looking for. Nevertheless I still settled on what I could find and worked with that.

My proposal.

Yes, I finally proposed. The wedding is going to be in October 2009. (Your invitations in the mail.) Seriously though, in my paper I propose to write about the invention of the internet and it's contribution to the perversion of society. Now I understand that for a few of you this may be a little too much to wrap your little heads around but yes, the internet HAS contributed to the perversion of our society. Some of you might still live in a reality where every woman is still given the benefit of the doubt and cast off as a "morally sound" person, but the fact remains that the embedding of pornography into our day to day lives has psychologically affected us all, to at least some extent, be it a passing thought when dabbling into a person who you just met's love life during a conversation or as extreme to actually partaking in the audience of the millions and millions (if not more) of people around the world who seek out a more for lack of a better word "passionate" (or should I say "kinky") form of entertainment, or dare I say you might even be one of my favorite actresses... Just kidding. But anyways, in my paper I, being the fearless groundbreaking journalist that I am, plan on asking all the questions that keep you up at night but you were always too scared to ask. Some of those questions being: How exactly did this reality come to exist today, How could things have been different, Who is affected most drastically, What lies ahead, Just who exactly is to blame for this, What can we do about this pandemic, How different ARE we than the previous generations given that pornography is more influential now than ever before, and last but not least, the question that's on all your minds, Just how CAN I cash in on the adult entertainment industry? All those questions and more will be answered in my paper, cleverly titled, "The Invention of the Internet and it's Contribution to the Perversion of Society." (Coming soon to a computer near you.)

Hypertext Essay Sources

One of the sources of my hypertext essay was "whatis.com". The reason why I used this website was to gather information on cyberspace. As far as authoritativeness goes, they do specify who it is that wrote the specific piece of information that is posted on the website. For the record also, let me state that this is a website that professionals like IT guys use so it would have to be very reputable by the 'IT' community to be used by them. As far as currency goes, the exact piece of information that I used was written very recently. January 25th, 2008 to be exact. The objectivity seems to be up to standard, to some extent at least since we know all sources of information ever written in the world are somewhat biased. And finally, accuracy. The information is accurate, so much so that the website can be used almost as a dictionary of sorts.

Another source I used was "CNN.com". The authoritativeness is very clear as it does always show who has stated what in it's articles and news stories. The currency is very up to par, in the sense that the website is updated hourly. Accuracy is good, as it is under alot of pressure since it is very much under a microscope, in terms of it's prescence in the rest of the world. And finally objectivity. It's objectivity is somewhat biased but again, since it is under a microscope so to speak, it can only be so biased before it would start to segregate visitors to the site.

The third source I used was "changingminds.org". It's authority is less prominent but nevertheless it does have a section of the website devoted to contacting whoever it is that seems to be in charge. Currency is unknown. Accuracy seems to be okay, so far. And thirdly objectivity is unknown, as since we don't know who wrote the information, we don't know their motives or agenda for saying what they are saying as well.

Technology.

Technology has greatly affected every one of our lives. Mine included. Had it not been for technology we would still be hunters and gatherers. We would be nomads always in search of a temporary food source. Thanks to technology, We are now able to have our food mass produced and even delivered wherever need be, all in a short time. We are able to a permenant source of water in almost any place we desire to live. We are able to control the breeding of cattle and all our other sources of food. Also thanks to technology, we are able to have all our art, music, and literature seen and heard all around the world. We are able to stay in touch with people all the way on the other side of earth. We can predict the weather before it even happens. We can stop crime, at least to some extent. We can put out fires before it spreads and becomes even more of a problem. We have created an entirely new form of communication with the invention of cellular phones, text messages, blogs, video blogs, chat rooms, message boards, social networks, even mail. We have discovered amazing things we technology by harnessing it for science. And even better we are able to take this newfound knowledge and teach it to all of humanity. These are just some of the ways that technology has affected my life.

"The Third Culture"

For the longest time there have been what many have broken down into two distinct cultures. There is science culture. Science culture is basically, the community inside society that is responsible for all the convienent products that exist in our world today. The production of these products has helped fuel what has come to be known in society today as popular culture. With the spread of records, radio, television, tapes, later cds, and even more recently mp3s, popular culture has become deeply embedded into our day to day lives, and it is all due to science culture. In the article "The Third Culture" by Kevin Kelly, he makes a point of saying that as science culture has helped magnify popular culture it has gone almost completely unacknowledged for all the work that it has done. The article states that despite the tensions between the two cultures, a third one has emerged. This new culture is described to be "pop culture based on technology... Nerd culture." The group of people who make up this "third culture" try as much as possible to distance themselves both from scientists and art, stating that unlike art which emphasizes meaning, this third culture values "creation, rather than creativity."

Cyberculture

The invention of the internet has created an altogether different form of interaction among one another in society. We now have social communities online, aside from chat rooms and message boards which have been around for quite a long time. Most of us are a part of cyber culture. I myself am a user on myspace.com and facebook.com and a few message boards as well. Not to mention an email account, which almost every person on the face of the earth has, the ones with computers at least. The invention of these social networks has influenced me and my life quite a bit. Not only has the world gotten a closer look at who I am as person on myspace.com but I have gotten a better look at the world and who they really are. Some of these people include my friends and even people id have an idea of what I thought would make up a good social community. In my opinion, myspI have never met before. I have actually made quite a few friends on these social networking websites. When I first became a user on a social networking website I didn't really have any expectations. However, after I got a grip on the new dimension of communication that make up these websites I do think that myspace has more of what I am looking for than facebook, however facebook does have quite a few features that myspace doesn't. Myspace is more in depth and personal to me than facebook is, but that's just my opinion. But in all, "cyber culture" has met my expectations. And as more and more arise in the future, they most likely will be met by the people who run the social networking websites.

Pop culture

One aspect of popular culture is one's style of living, where they fit into the society. The people are influenced by mass media to fit into a certain group to be liked and appreciated. In addition to mass media, the people are influenced by fads, styles, and music. We feel that everyone has a certain group to which they belong to in popular culture, even the people who say they do not belong, have created a new group that is still a part of popular culture. People need to feel that they are liked and needed so they are easily influenced by mass media, fads, styles, and music.
